Peter Pan generation

According to the magazines and corporate media we are no longer the generation X, we are now the Peter Pan generation. I kind of like the title "Peter Pan generation", even if it was intended as cynical, but I couldn't disagree more when they say we live in permanent adolescence. We don't. Socially speaking, the vast majority of us don't disdain our parent's choices and attitudes, we don't gather in giant groups, we don't fancy the same music, books and movies, we don't walk around bullying people that are different. On the opposite we try to work and do our best without trying to undermine the competitors job, we have coherent political views, we can have civilized and productive talks at our workplace (when we have one) and at a dinner party, we vote, we read, we garden, we cook, we found ways to share houses, offices, studios, cars, shores and good times. Teenagers and many "responsible adults" above 40 often don't.
They say we are not willing to take responsibility for growing up, meaning we don't get responsibility for loans with shitty jobs, mortgages for buying houses, flats and expensive things... Without that, in today's occidental culture, stability, children and marriage are little bit more distant. That's what happens when people from 25-40 understand society's traps and have no way to change: they just stop playing the game and start living what they can, even if it seems to others that it is a dream that can shatter from night to day. For us it is our one and only life and as far as I'm concerned we are living it the best we can. If it makes you fell any better: your lifestyle (may it be a dream or a nightmare) can also crack at any given moment. Make the best of it.
