Portuguese design criticism
Portugal hasn't got than many critics and the ones we have are now fairly concerned with politics and economics, or then, showcasing a few conservative specific studios and some classical or fashionable young designers. That's already better than what we we had 10 years ago... Even so we never read a portuguese text about something new, neither texts capable of connecting ethics and aesthetics. Overall It's a pretty shitty theoretical and practical design scenario here. Like this all our visual history books will probably be something like the "Design Now" catalogs. Or then, incredibly long discourses about safe works distant from any kind af ambition or emergence. That's why we can't grow. The poor design panorama makes conservative classical design something already different enough, damanding lots of attention in the critics mission on educating. All diference is too diferent, and yet we are making it.
